Musikgarten, an internationally recognized early childhood music program, offers instruction which is just right for each age level - from your baby who benefits greatly from being part of a live music environment, right up through school-age children who delight in group piano classes.

"Making music, in a joyful and purposeful way, provides a self recognition in children that help them to enjoy the act of learning." Those words from Dr. Lorna Heyge, the founder of Musikgarten, establish the basis for our children's music programs.

For parents, our unique program allows participation in a fun, energetic environment while instilling a love and understanding of music in their child that also teaches life lessons including how to listen, get along with others, and perform well in school.

Beginning simply with singing, moving, and exploring rhythm instruments, Musikgarten adds levels of complexity as the children grow, expanding the singing repertoire, teaching more complex dances, and building instrumental ensembles. Children coming through the Musikgarten program inherently "know" the music they eventually play in later years in group piano instruction.

Musikgarten is the one of the few programs that offers music curricula for newborns, through toddlers and preschoolers, to older school-aged children in group piano instruction.  Taught all around the country, Musikgarten is an extremely popular and well established program that gracefully guides babies to school-aged children through a set series of classes and methodology that has been proven to successfully engage children and create musical aptitude. It establishes a distinct bridge for music and movement instruction through to keyboard instruction.  It is based on a keen understanding of how children learn, in both a general sense and, specifically, how they learn music.

The Musikgarten classes offered at Joyful Music Seattle are designed to nurture the child’s musical aptitude by engaging children and their families in singing and movement activities which help attune the ear, refine the voice, and develop a rhythmic body through which music can be expressed.  Additionally, instrumental activities are part of the program, ranging from playing simple rhythm instruments such as sticks and drums for babies and toddlers to playing keyboards for older children.
